Christmas Vacation

Oh what a great week I have had!  It has been so nice letting the kids stay up late, sleep in the next day and hang out with them!  It is strange to me how different this vacation is compared to last year.  Payton and Carson are so much more mature and self sufficient.  I love the conversations we have and am sometimes shocked at just how smart and knowledgeable they really are.

Aidan is a little maniac!  He cracks me up because he wants to play with Payton and Carson but they get so irritated at his constant "meddling" with their things and the way they play.  We set up a TV and a small sofa in our sunporch for the kids to watch movies.  It is nice because it is right off of our living room so we can keep an eye on them yet they have their own space.  Aidan loves watching the movie Rio.  As soon as it is done he begins yelling "Over!...it is Over!!".  He wants someone to sit out there w/ him while he watches the movie so he takes turns yelling for Payton and Carson to come be with him.  They are very good sports and take turns watching Rio!  :)

Mike and I have introduced the kids to the games Yahtzee and Monopoly.  Carson has proven to be a shark at both games!  I have to admit it is a nice change from chutes and ladders and candyland!  We were up until after 11:00 last night finishing our monopoly game.

During the day I let the kids get out all of their play dough toys and play in the kitchen.  It is such a mess but they love it and all three play so well together.

I am very sad that my vacation is going so quickly.  Payton has gymnastics on Saturday and we head to Ames after that for Mike's family's Christmas.  Then it is back to work on Tuesday.  :(

We hope that you have all had a great Christmas and will have a happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

What a blessed year we have had!  I don't take the time often enough to just look around me and see how blessed I am....but when I do...I am overwhelmed!

We had a great Christmas and I am enjoying my week of vacation with the kids!

The kids had their program for School last Thursday.  It was really cute and the kids did great singing their songs!  They got out of school on Friday for Christmas break.  Mike's parents came up on Friday evening and stayed with us over the weekend.  Christmas Eve the kids had their program at church which was nice.  Each kid had to memorize a verse and repeat it this year.  Payton was nervous but Carson was all confidence!  They both did great!

We came home and opened a few early presents before setting milk and cookies out for Santa.  Payton wrote a note to go with the treats and then they headed to bed.  I am a kid at Christmas...I am worse than the kids...I get so excited!  It took me forever to get to sleep and then I was awake at 5 in the morning...waiting for one of them to get up and come and get us...I waited until 7:00!!  They slept in!

Before I knew paper was being ripped and giggles and laughter were filling our house!  The kids loved their gifts and immediately went to playing with their new things.  Mike's mom and dad left mid morning and I finished up our lunch.  I made so much food!  But it was too hard to choose what to make so I made a little bit of everything!  We had a great day home with the kids and enjoyed staying in our jammies all day.  Unfortunately Payton got sick around bedtime.  She and I slept in the living room and she was better by morning.

The day after Christmas was a lazy one!  We literally didn't do anything which was really nice!  I have this week off of work so I get to stay home and hang out with the kids.  Today we had a playdough day.  We do not get the playdough out often because it is such a mess but the kids love it.  Today they had three hours of uninterrupted play!  I think we will try to make our own tomorrow!  Wish us luck!

Here are some pictures of our Christmas activities!

Christmas is Coming!!

Wow!  I can't believe how much time has passed since my last post!  There has been so much going on...I don't know how far back to go!  :)

What have we been up to?

Payton:
Payton has been perfecting her gymnastics routines for her competition and performances coming in January.  She has everything memorized and is just working on the details now.  She is also in dance and has been working hard on remembering her new moves.  She is loving it and the fact that she loves the girls we ride-share with!  Payton is loving 3rd grade and it amazes me how much things have changed since last year.  There are some things that she has outgrown and it makes me sad....  (bows in her hair...cute princess socks etc).  I do look forward to the next stages for her but am sad that there are some things I will never be able to do as a mother again (put pigtails in her hair, give her baths, etc).

Carson:
Let's get ready to wrestle!!!  Wrestling season is here and we are busy, busy busy with meets!  So far he has gone to four meets and placed second in all of them.  I am impressed at how much he has improved since last year.  I still get very nervous before he starts a match and sit on the edge of my seat the entire time until the match is done!  Last weekend we went to a state qualifier tournament.  If you place first or second you are automatically eligible to wrestle at state.  Carson took home the second place medal so we will be headed back to Rochester for the state tourney in March.  It is one of the hi-lights of the season for  us and I am very excited to go again!

Aidan:
Wow...where do I begin???  he is growing so quickly and learning so many new things.  He is so much fun and I love the anticipation of what is going to come out of his mouth next!  He cracks me up with all of his new words and the way he uses them in a sentence.  Such a little man!  He loves to dance to music, play with Payton and Carson and snuggle with our new kitten Brownie.

We are getting ready for Christmas here.  I have almost all of my shopping done w/ the exception of a few things.  Our tree has been redecorated a few times since Brownie likes to play with the ornaments and Aidan thinks it is fun to put her on the tree branches.  It was really pretty the day I put it up...it is now reminding me of the Charlie Brown tree.  As long as there are gifts under it I don't think our kids will care what it looks like!

Mike's Aunt Mary bought Aidan the book and elf "Elf on a shelf".  If you have younger kids I strongly recommend this set.  Our kids can't wait to get up in the morning and see where our elf is.  They have named him Chris.  I often catch Carson talking to him and telling him about his day.  It is pretty funny....when we first got it, Carson told me he didn't know if it was real or not but he was going to be good just in case!

Here are some pictures to catch you up on our family:   These are very random!  I will try to be better about posting!  :)

Meet Brownie...she is the newest member of our family.  We will be very excited when we can have her claws removed...until then we are living with all of the scratching.  She is pretty cute so it isn't too hard to tolerate...as you can see...she is very loved but us all!

The shirt Carson is wearing is one he earned last year for wrestling over 40 matches.  These aren't easy to get and not very many wrestlers get their names on the back!!

So hard to get a good pic on front of the tree!!
