Another Week Down!

It is hard to believe that Friday is almost over!  We have had a good week and have a busy weekend ahead.

The kids are doing well in school.  I am amazed at how well Carson is picking up reading and spelling.  I was really worried that we would be struggling with this and had aticipated spending a lot of extra time working on it with him but it just hasn't been needed yet.  He has had 2 spelling tests and gotten 100% on both.  He also took his first accelerated reading test after reading the book several times on his own and passed that with 100% as well.  Payton has also done very well with her reading and spelling.  These have always been very stron subjects for her.  She is in 2nd grade and can read at a 4th grade level.

Tomorrow morning we will head to Jackson for Carson's football game and then Payton has her first day of fall gymnastics.  I am excited to see Carson's game.  They all look so cute running around.  It is flag football so no tackles yet!

Payton got a couple of new leotards this year and is excited to wear those.  She loves gymnastics and has told us it is her favorite activity that she is involved in.  Dance practice will be starting soon.  We go in for shoe sizing next week so that will be a big check!  She will start jazz dance this year so we will have to get 3 pairs of dance shoes.  Ouch!

I had a friend from our Omaha office that was up this week so she and I went to dinner on Monday night.  While I was out, Mike took Carson to a cub scout meeting and signed him up.  Carson could not be more excited!  He is bouncing off the walls.  One of the first things he will do as a scout is go camping with his dad.  Mike and Carson will go on an overnight camp trip at the end of the month.  I think they will both have a blast!

I golfed on Wednesday of this week.  We had our club championship tournament a few weeks ago and I won!  I was so exicted because I NEVER win!  Then, we had a few additional weeks of match play where you are paired with people that have a similar handicap.  The winner of the most holes wins and you continue to play until you lose.  As it turns out, I won in my bracket for that tournament!  Very exciting golf year.  I am trying to convince Mike that I have earned new clubs....we will see if he agrees!  :)

We had some excitement here on Wednesday evening as well.  Payton lost another tooth!  The funny thing is that it is her top 2nd tooth.  It literally looks like it has just been knocked out.  She is very proud of it because she pulled it all by herself.  I catch her prancing around in front of the mirror grinning so she can see the big open space where her tooth used to be!  The tooth fairy snuck in her room to leave her money and she woke up!  The tooth fairy had to do some fast taking to get out of that one!  An hour later she returned and successfully took the tooth and left a dollar for Payton!

I had stayed home with Payton on Wednesday as she was having some type of stomach flu.  She never got sick but was white as a ghost and very clammy.  She was better by the afternoon.  She just hung out here and slept most of the day which I think did her well.

I got the kids' Halloween costumes this week as well.  Carson has been begging for a Darth Vader costume and Payton wanted to be a fairy.  Luckily Aidan is too little to have an opinion so I will choose a tiger for him!  It is hard to beleive that Halloween will be here shortly!

Today Carson had a play date after school with his little buddy Carter.  He was so excited b/c he not only got to play with his buddy but he got to ride the school bus!  I always drop the kids off and pick them up so they don't ride the bus.  Carson called me a little bit after school and asked if he could stay all night.  It is his first over night stay with a friend so I am waiting to see if the phone rings.  I am sure he will not call but I am here just in case!

Cheerleading, Football, Kites and More!

We have had a busy few weeks!  The kids are adjusting well to their school schedules and I am starting to feel like a taxi!

I am very impressed with Carson's school work!  He has really surprised me with this spelling and math capability!  I have also noticed a huge improvement in his handwriting.  He is really liking first grade and feels much older now that he is no longer in Kindergarten!

Payton is her usual smiley self and continues to do well at school.  She is a perfectionist and accepts nothing less than perfect papers!

We have had very nice weather the past week and have taken advantage by being outside....A LOT!

Last week Payton participated in a cheerleading clinic Tues - Fri and then performed at half time of the football game last night.  I was pretty nervous b/c it rained / poured all day but it cleared off just in time for all 40 of the little girls to do their cheer, chants and dance.  As always, I was a very proud mama!  We stayed for most of the game but Aidan started getting fussy around 9:15 so we headed home a little early.

We got up early this morning and headed to Jackson for Carson's first flag football game.  He was so cute!  I have to say, Carson is FAST!  It looks effortless but he can really run!  They practice skills the first 1/2 hour and then scrimmage the next 1/2 hour.  Mike helped coach the boys and I think both he and Carson had a lot of fun!

After football we headed to the jackson airport for the Prairie Wind Kite expo.  They had some really amazing kites flying.  We brought the kites we bought for the kids when we were in DC.  The day was perfectly windy for flying kites!  The kites went up right away which was pretty exciting!  After we put the kites away we walked around looking at all of the cool kites.  There was a caterpillar kite that stayed on the ground.  The kids could lay on the ground and the wind would blow the kite back and forth over them.  It was pretty cute!

We came home and all of us got to take a nap!  We were all so tired and it was really windy which just intesified the need for a nap!

I have really been enjoying my new camera!  It amazes me how much better my pictures are and I really like trying new features and pushing it to the limits!

Below are some pictures of our week!

Labor Day Weekend

We had a great Labor Day Weekend, but like most weekends...it went way too fast!  We left early on Friday and headed to Missouri to see my family.  It was Aidan's longest ride yet and he did great!  We did make more stops than we normally do but he was very patient and enjoyed time outside of the car!

We stopped at Best Buy in Ames and picked up my new camera.  It is awesome and I took over 350 pictures over the weekend!  That will explain why there are so many pictures in this post!

We made it to my Mom's a little after 5:00 and we were all glad to be out of the car!!  My nieces were staying with my mom since Brian and Sandy were in Vegas.  The kids had fun hanging out with the girls and  I got to visit with my Aunt Tudy.  I hadn't seen her for a while either and she was buying my old camera so we went over some of the camera basics!

Saturday we got up and my best friend from high school, her dad and her 2 girls came to visit.  Our kids played so well together.  I think Laila and Carson are new best friends!  Many of our aunts, uncles and cousins came over for a hot dog roast.  Payton and Carson had a blast and played very hard!  My nephew Korbey stayed all nigth and he and Carson played so good together.  We had gotten the kids bug catchers and the boys had them filled!  Uncle Jerry brought his 4 wheeler out and gave the kids rides.  I am sure they will be asking Santa for one this Christmas!

Yesterday morning Mike and Darral ran to Cabellas in KC while I fixed 3 large pans of chicken enchiladas.  I got to spend some quality time with Aunt Brenda and Monica which was nice.  Aidan had lot of fun with the attention he got from them!

We hung out at Mom and Darral's Sunday evening and then headed back to MN this morning.  The drive home took a lot less time and we were all glad to be back here...but not ready to unpack!

Here are some pictures of our weeknd!
